Veteran Hindi Actress Nanda Passes Away


Yesteryear Bollywood Actress Nanda ( 75) passes away. She passed away this morning after a heart attack at her residence.
She has acted in several hit films in Bollywood in 60’s and 70’s. Her most important films are ‘Gumnaam’, ‘Teen Deviyan’ and ‘Hum Dono’.
Nanda was born in the Film Family to Marathi Actor and director Vinayak Damodar Karnataki ( known as Master Vinayak) . She was the niece of the film making pioneer V Shantaram. She started as a child artist and got her first break as a grown up in V shantarams 1956 film ‘Toofan Aur Diya’

With the success of ‘Toofan Aur Diya’, Nanda did not look back and went on to establish herself in the Hindi film industry with hits like ‘Jab Jab Phool Khile’, ‘Gumnaam’, ‘Teen Deviyan’, ‘The Train’, ‘Mandir’, ‘Angarey’, ‘Ram Laxman’, ‘Bandi’, ‘Ittefaq’, ‘Hum Dono’, ‘Prayashchit’, ‘Ahista Ahista’, ‘Prem Rog’ and ‘Mazdoor’ among several others.

She got nominated for Filmfare Award five times for her performance in Bhabhi ( 1957), Aanchal(1960) , Ittefaq ( 1969), Ahista Ahista (1981) and Prem Rog(1982). She won film fare best supporting actress Award for Aanchal on 1960.

The actress was engaged to the director Manmohan Desai. But the marriage did not happen as he died after falling from the terrace of his rented flat . since the she decided to remain Unmarried. She will remain always in the minds of the viewers with her outstanding performance in the Hindi film.
