Suraj Venjaramoodu bagged the national award for the best actor. He got this award for the film ‘ Perariyathavar’ directed by Dr Biju for the portrayal of a man on the lower margins of the society. Suraj shared the award with the bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao for this brilliant portrayal of the intriguing journey of a Muslim young man who is persecuted and who rebels for the film ‘shahid’ . Anand Gandhi Directed ‘ship of Theseus’ was selected as the best feature film . Best Director award goes to Hansal Mehta for Shahid. Best Actor (Female) went to Geetanjali Thapa,for Liar’s Dice.
Suraj told the media that he had expected the award. He told that all the co workers in the film has told that he would definitely get the award for his acting in the film ‘Perariyathavar’. The film tells the story of the road sweepers and their problems. The film highlighted the agonies of this marginalized section of society. He told that since he is familiar with these persons he was able to execute the role easily. He has been applauded for soulfully bringing the character live with subtle body language and eyes which transcend words.He told that he dedicates this award to the Malayalam film and the language.
The film has been selected as the best film on Environment Conservation / Preservation. Rajeev Raji Bags the best cinematographer for film Liars Dice. The film is directed by his wife actress and director Geetu Mohandas . Geethanjali Thappa got the best actress award for this film. Liars Dice is a road movie which tell the story of a mountain women along with her 3 year old daughter who stubbornly ignores the village elders and takes off in search of her missing spouse
