Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad completes 25 years of service Hyderabad, 27th August, 2013: Apollo Hospitals, the first super-specialty hospital in Andhra Pradesh and the first functional Health City in Asia has completed 25 years in service of the community. Launched on 27 August, 1988 as a 150 bedded hospital on a hillock in the then outskirts of Hyderabad, Apollo Hospitals has evolved into a global healthcare destination. Association with University of Rochester Medical Centre, New York, USA: On the occasion of the 25th Anniversary, Apollo Hospitals announced a patient care and academic collaboration with University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), USA. URMC will work with Apollo Hospitals, sharing innovations inclinical care, education and research across multiple specialties. Gastroenterology, Emergency Medicine, Neurosciences and Medical Education will be the primary focus in the initial phase of collaboration; other specialties will be taken up in subsequent phases as the two health networks exchange faculty and trainees, engage in joint research studies, and develop shared approaches to patient care. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Peter Robinson, COO of University of Rochester Medical Center said, “URMC is deeply honored. This is our most comprehensive alliance to-date with an Indian institution, and we are excited about all we can learn from a partner the size, scope and quality of Apollo Hospitals. Together we can establish a new benchmark for global healthcare.” Right to Emergency Care through Healthy Schools : Over a million lives are lost annually in road traffic accidents across the country. This has a major socio-economic impact on the nation as a majority of these deaths happen in the young and the middle aged population groups. Apollo Hospitals has introduced a number of new concepts like Hospital on Wheels (fully equipped and staffed ambulances), Life Savers (common people in the community trained in first-aid), road safety awareness programs etc. Apollo Hospitals now launches a unique program that will help people gain access to the highest standards of care in case they meet with an accident. This program titled ‘HEALTHY SCHOOLS’ includes the following components: Health Check for school students; maintenance of health record of the students; health education for the students and Rs.50,000/- worth free treatment for a student &/ parents in case they meet with an accident. This program is being offered at Rs.200 per student per year and schools which implement this program will receive the Healthy Schools branding. In case students are unable to afford this program, Apollo Hospitals will arrange donors to support them financially for the program. The goal is to have a million school children enrolled in this program in a year.
