Padma Bushan For Mohanlal : Recommendation sparks Controversy


The Kerala Governments Recommendation for Mohanlal for the Prestigious Padma Bushan Awards , had sparked up controversy. Had reportedly filed a complaint to the Central Home Secretary. The Kerala Government has prepared a list of 30 names for this prestigious award. The complaint was given by Anti Corruption and Human Rights Protection Council of Palakkad district.It stated that the nominee list is biased and lack transparency due to the political intervention.
The Kerala Government has recommended film actor Mohanlal and V Gopinathan the president of Gandhi Memorial Trust. Issac Vargheese in his complaint said that the list has been prepared by the cabinet Sub committee though the center had specifically asked for the sate to constitute a search committee for the recommendation.

It pointed out that the actor Mohanlal has been accused under the wild life act of the Possession of Ivory and that makes him ineligible for the Padma Awards. Isaac Varghese, the state president of the action council states that it is unfair to nominate a person, who is accused under the wild life act, for the civilian awards as it will convey a wrong message to the society.

The petitioner claimed that four tusks were seized from the actors residence , and still the case exists. The case was registered under the Indian wildlife Act Which Deals with Possession of trophies and it was registered against Mohanlal, by the income tax department for possessing ivory without license. Isaac Varghese, the state president of the action council states that it is unfair to nominate a person, who is accused under the wild life act, for the civilian awards as it will convey a wrong message to the society.

It was also stated in the petition to get an explanation and report from the Kerala State Government and including Mohanlal.

The council has also sent a copy of the complaint to the President of India and Prime Minister besides central Home ministry
