Oommen Chandy promises help to Lohithadas’ family


Chief minister Oommen Chandy has promised help to the family of renowned film personality Lohithadas who passed away in 2009.The ace writer’s sons met Chandy on Wednesday seeking protection from the recovery proceedings that have been initiated against the family.
The chief minister was told that Lohithadas’ two homes – one in Lakkidi and the other in Aluva – were about to be attached by the Cooperative Urban Bank, Ottappalam, and the Kerala State Financial Enterprises, Aluva. Lohithadas’s wife, Sindhu, and two sons stay in the home at Lakkidi.
Lohithadas had availed of loans from the bank and KSFE to produce the Tamil version of ‘Kastooriman,’ starring Prasanna and Meera Jasmine. The debt has now accumulated to Rs 55 lakh. Lohithadas was forced to take over the film after the original producer backed out. Though the film won the Tamil Nadu state film award, it was a commercial disaster.The chief minister has not specified the assistance that could be extended.
