Kodiyeri Balakrishnan is the CPI (M) Politburo Member, Kerala Secretariat member and Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader. Presently he is the deputy opposition leader of the Kerala Legislative assembly. During 2006 to 2011 He was the home and the tourism Minister of Kerala state. He came to Politics through the students political wing and was the secretary of the Students Federation Of India (SFI).
