Jump Jilani

Story: Identical twins, Sattiababu (Naresh) and Ram Babu (Naresh) join hands to save their ancestral hotel. From wooing the health inspector Madhavi (Isha Chawala) to conning her cousin and fiancee Ugra Narasimha a self-styled fake factionist (Posani) to getting entangled in a chase for precious diamonds, the challenge just keeps getting more and more daunting.

Movie Review: Samantha samosa, Tamannaah tandoori, Ileana bhajji, Aishwarya burji, Hansika halwa, Pranitha pakodi, Katrina cutlet, Anushka omlet, Shruti Haasan soupuuuu…so goes a song in the movie called khana khazaana which pretty much encapsulates the brand of humor that you’re going to find in this movie.

Writing for Allari Naresh movies in many ways is a lot like taking shots in the dark. But if anyone who’s ever tried to get infants to laugh will understand that there’s no method to it. No disrespect to the audiences but anything goes really. From coining absolute undecipherable gibberish phrases like goulu munnu…kichu kichu…buchi papa… nonsensically exaggerated histrionics, to lamest facial contortions…whatever it does not matter. All that counts is whether it gets the laughs.

Gee…it must be challenging proposition, because you know the viewers want to have a few laughs, but just can’t pin point as to what could work. To be fair to the filmmaker and his writers, you can’t fault them for not trying. They throw the kitchen’s sink at us, while some of it turns out to be unintentionally funny, everything else falls in the category of terrible pj’s that go wrong.

There are the perfunctory parodies on the hit punch dialogues from recent blockbusters as well. When Naresh thunders Nenu simham lanti wadini…daniki naku okate theda…naku duradaesthe nenu chetho gokuntanu, adi kalu tho gokuntunndi..migathadantha same to same ( which loosely translates as I’m exactly like a lion, the only difference is that when it itches I use my hand to scratch while the lion would use a leg) with a Pawan Kalyanesque grunt ahh in the end you can’t help but smile in agreement.

And when Naresh challenges a factionist Jaya Prakash Reddy from an open top SUV roaring Ra Ra chusukundam…hand ki hand.,.head ki head..daniki ade (meaning bring it on, whether it’s hand for hand, a head for a head or that for that), we know it’s a below the belt reference on the factionist dialogue writing we find in Balakrishna/NTR Jr movies.

Besides a few standard edition movie jokes we also have tacky repartees. When twins Satti Babu and Ram Babu tell the cop (Raghu Teja) that they are Kamala pillalu (Telugu for identical twins) he retorts saying evari pillalayithe nakenti (how do I care whose kids you are). The joke being: the phrase ‘kamala pillalu’ being construed as kamala’s kids. We are also treated to visuals like the cop dancing with his pants off and the service revolver dangling out of his undies when it goes bang.

You better watch the movie to find out what happens, and know finer details like the plot, music, quality of acting, writing and cinematography and the likes. It’s a free for all after all. So go figure and make what you can off it.
