Aiswarya Rai who won the Miss World Pageant made her debut in Tamil films in Iruvar In 1997. This film directed by Maniratnam has earned her good name for herself. Following that Shankar in his directorial Tamil Film Jeans casted her opposite Prasanth . This film was a super hit and made the actress a popular name in Kollywood.

After that she became busy in Bollywood and when she became famous in hindi film industry she became choosy and a suitable script has not come on her way from tamil .. But after 10 years she made her comeback to Tamil movie was bilingual Mani Ratnam film Raavanan, which starred Vikram and Prithiv Raj on important role in the Tamil version. In the same year she was seen in Rajinikanth’s science-fiction movie Endhiran – The Robot and it became a blockbuster. After that she did not do any Tamil film.
