Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple


Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple is one of the most sacred and important pilgrim centre in India. The temple is located in Trissur District Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Krishna and is also called Bhoolokavaikunta – The Heaven on Earth! According to the belief, The temple is the creation of Guru, the preceptor of the gods(Brihaspati) and Vayu, the god of winds. The Legend has it that this image was originally worshipped by Bhrama and gifted to Vishnu who retained it with him at Dwarka during his Krishnavataram. The eastern Nada is the main entrance to the shine. Within the Chuttambalam ( outer enclosure) a high gold plated Flag post has been placed. There is a Dipastambham ( pillar of Lambs ) which provide a truly gorgeous spectacle when lit.

How to Reach

Nearest railway station:
1. Guruvayur, – Guruvayur – Chennai express train from Chennai Via Thiruvantapuram, Madurai and Trichirapalli runs up to this station.
Regular passenger train service to Ernakulam via Thrissur will be available to this station
2. Thrissur Is the major Railway station which has better connectivity. (The temple is located about 29 km from Trissur.

Nearest airport: Cochin International Airport, about 75 km.

By road: Guruvayurr is connected by road with several important cities of India. Various private and State Government – owned bus companies operate regular services to this temple town.
