The opening film at the Indian Panorama is Kanyaka Talkies. The inaugural film of the international film festival is Oscar nominated film The Don Juan directed by Check Film Director Jiri Menzel.
Besides the life time achievement award , a new centenary award to mark 100 years of Indian Cinema would be instituted and given on the occasion. The festival would have a special focus on films from the northeast. The closing film would be “Mandela : Long walk to Freedom ” directed by Justin Chadwick. This festival will feature 160 foreign films under various categories and it will feature 151 films In Indian Panorama. The Academy award winning Hollywood actress Susan Sarandon , critically acclaimed Iranian director Majid Majidi and Polish Film maker Agnieszka Holland will also attend the event. From the Indian side, legendary singer Asha Bhosle, Actress Rekha, Actor – Film maker Kamal Hassan and veteran actor Manoj kumar will also attend the function. All of them together will be lighting the lamp.
Besides the film Kanyaka Talkies directed by K R Manoj based on the story of P V Shaji Kumar, some other films present in the Indian Pamorama feature is “Satyanweshi” of Ritupana Ghosh and Ship of Theseus of Anand Gandhi.
