Aaranmula: Uthruttathy Boat race in which the Palliyodams (Snake Boats ) of 51 Karas along the River Pamba will takes place today. At 1’o clock today after noon Governor Nikhil Kumar will inaugurate the meeting at Sathra Kadavu. The procession of the palliyodams will be at 1.30 pm and the boat race will start and 3.30 pm. The “Jalakhoshayathra” will be inaugurated by Minister P.J Joseph and boat race by Minister Adoor Prakash.The race will be separate for A batch and B batch. Winners from both the batches will be given Mannam Trophy.
The Uthruttathy boat race which takes place in river Pampa is part of the temple rituals of Aaranmula Parthasarathy Temple.
The boat race originated from the procession conducted by the boats on Uthruttathy day , which accompanied the “thiruvonathoni” main boat. of Mangattu Bhatathiripadu , which carried the items for Onasadya to the deity on Thiruvonam day .
