Shri Padmananbhaswamy Temple


Shri Padmanabhaswamy temple is located in Thiruvananthapuram the Capital City of the State of Kerala in India. . It is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is a blend of the Kerala and Dravidian style of architecture. The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Vishnu, the padmanabhaswamy is enshrined in the Anantha – sayanam posture ( in the eternal sleep of yoga nidra on the serpent ananda). The maharajah of the Travancore bears the title Shree Pamanabha –dasa ( slave of Lord Padmanabha)

Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala takes its name from the presiding deity of the Shri Padmanabha Swamy temple. “Thiru” “Ananda” “Puram” means sacred abode of Lord Ananda Padmanabha. Hence the name Thiruvanthapuram literally – the land of shri Anantha Padmanabhaswamy. The city is also known as Andapuram (City of Bliss) and Syananduram (where bliss is not far off) Hindu scriptures refer to the supreme being as sachidananda (absolute consciousness, and absolute bliss)
