Monisha proved her genius in the first movie and gained the National award for best actress in her debut film ‘Nakhakshathangal’ in 1986. She was only 15 years of age and thus became the youngest actress to receive National award. At the age of 21 years, Monisha was killed in a car accident.

Life History

Monisha was born in 1971 in Alleppy to Unni and Sreedevi. She has a brother called Sajith. Her father was in the tannery industry in Bangalore, she spend her childhood in Bangalore. She learnt the initial lessons of dance from her mother who was also a dancer herself. She did her performed her debut dance at the age of 9 years. In 1985 she was selected for the Kausika Award of Karnataka Government. She has completed her studies in St. Charles school and Bishop Cotton school and did her graduation in Psychology from Mount Carmel College Bangalore.

As an Actress

Famous litterateur, screenplay writer and movie director MD Vasudevan Nair was Monisha’s family friend. He was behind her entry into the cine world through ‘Nakhakshathangal’ directed by Hariharan and story by MD. Another new face Vineeth was the hero. Monisha was awarded with the best actress award in 1987 for the character ‘Gouri a village girl. She has also acted in the remake of this film in Tamil, named ‘Pookkal vidum ithal’ and also in another Tamil movie ‘Dravidan’ and a Kannada film ‘Chiramjeevi’.

Death

Monisha was killed in a car accident at Cherthala near Aleppy on 05th Dec 1992 while she was travelling with her mother. She was acting in a film
‘Cheppadi Vidya’. Monisha succumbed to a head injury.
