Kerala Proposes To Introduce High-Speed Train Service on Ernakulam – Kannur Route .


Tiruvanthapuram – Kerala State Government had mooted a proposal to introduce a high – speed train in Ernakulam – Kannur Section. The train will stop only at one point in a district and is envisaged to cover the distance in three and half hours. The chief minister also said that the Railways have responded favorably to the proposal.

He spoke this to the news persons after the high – level meeting chaired by him to discuss on the set up a separate company to implement the proposed suburban rail corridor modeled on the Mumbai mass rapid transit system.

It has been decided in the meeting that the State government and the Railways will have equal stakes in the new company. The State Government will also set up a separate company (special purpose vehicle) to implement the proposed suburban rail corridor modelled on the Mumbai mass rapid transit system . Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation, which runs the Mumbai transit system will be given the responsibility for this and will ask them to prepare a detailed project report before December. . He also added that the next meeting will give official confirmation for this.
